A lively ambience in a historic setting

‘t Klein Stadhuis is a great little bistro on the Market Place in Ieper and has already developed a good name for itself in the surrounding area For those who aren’t yet acquainted, then both your stomach and your cultural life are missing out! With its ageless interior and its clientele of all ages, the thing that makes this café so renowned is that everyone feels at home here. Not forgetting the laid-back atmosphere, the cosiness of the café bar, the delicious food, the Musical Tuesdays…..

‘t Klein Stadhuis has a rich past, something that you notice as soon as you step inside and see before you the painted wall frescos. In times gone by, the building was the home of the Ieper Town Hall caretaker. Upstairs, you can still see where there used to be a passageway, linking the property with the Town Hall itself. Hence the explanation of our name, which translates as “In the Little Town Hall”. Today you’ll find here people from all walks of life; a punk rocker can sit back and savour his pint, alongside the smartest of businessmen. From 9 o’clock in the morning our door is open to everybody, until the last person to leave late at night gently closes it behind them. The ground floor area is given over to our bustling café whilst upstairs you’ll find our restaurant. Knuckle of ham in St Bernardus Triple beer sauce and the giant beef skewer are especially worthy of recommendation, as are our various salad dishes… And then on the top floor, we have a room which can be hired by groups of up to 30 people.

Our website acts as a reminder of what has taken place here in the past and also of what is still to come. And we also want to tell you about what we get up to in our kitchen and give you a flavour of what we’re serving up for your culinary enjoyment...

The café is open daily from 9am. We are closed on Sundays.
During the summer months we open from 3pm on Sundays.
During the week, the kitchen is open until 11pm and at the weekend until midnight.
